Labor survey details from Lamoille County report
The Vermont Department of Employment Security surveyed more than three quarters of households with labor force age in Lamoille County to produce a manpower report for the Lamoille County Development Council. From June 16 through September 17, 1971 the DES Mobile Unit contacted 3,805 people. 67.7 percent were employed and not seeking other work, 3.5 percent employed but seeking other work, 6.2 percent unemployed, 14.2 percent available for work in the future, and 8.5 percent not available for work. The labor supply totaled 908 persons. Occupational experience of those available for work skews to service 23 percent, clerical and sales 22 percent, and industrial 21 percent, with industrial activity centered in tourist-based service and trade. A sizable share (17 percent) commuted over 20 miles one way, indicating many residents work outside the county in industrial and professional fields. The report also covers demographic details with emphasis on industrial and occupational traits.
