Possible Deficit Foreseen In Village Budget
Bennington Village trustees learned that 1966 general fund tax collections fell short by 27,847 while total taxes to be raised reached 243,818. Total collections stood at 215,970.94 with about 6,500 in other income. Delayed grand list reappraisals and court actions reduced expected revenue, prompting spending cuts and a looming 5,000 in year-end expenses. A police car and fire hose purchases were planned, possibly financed via highway fund borrowings to avoid interest, with legal rulings pending.
