Bill to guarantee pensions in Vermont legislature
Vermont Democrat George Sloan proposes a bill at the upcoming session to insure private pension plans. He notes about 8000 firms yearly default or be excused from pension obligations and would require companies to insure or bond their plans. Sloan, after a Washington aging conference, says Social Security gains won’t offset rent-linked costs for subsidized housing and that veterans pensions fall as Social Security rises. He also backs a real estate tax break for seniors.
