Nixon landslide falls short of Johnson record in vote share

Official canvasses place Nixon at 80.9 percent of the popular vote, just above FDR in 1936 but short of Johnson's 1964 share. Nixon won 47,186,090 votes across 49 states with 521 electoral votes, while McGovern trailed with 29,169,585 votes and 17 electoral votes. Turnout was the lowest since 1928.
