Holiday traffic toll climbs during 102 hour Christmas period

United Press International reports the 102 hour Christmas travel period shows a rising death toll with a UPI count at 11 am estimating at least 312 fatalities. The worst incident involved a mobile home fire near Flint Michigan killing eight. Fatalities by state include Georgia 23, California 22, Texas 21 and Ohio 16 with several states reporting no deaths.

Denver Storm Halts City Life As Snow Drifts Soar

A violent Denver storm immobilized the metropolitan area with wind driven snow creating 3 to 10 foot drifts. Stapleton Airport closed runways and plows halted due to drifts. Major highways were shut or barely passable and emergency crews were largely stranded. Aurora reported only one police unit moving in a city where a WWII Weasel vehicle with a portable radio served as the lone mobile unit.
