Vermont highway waste shipments bill backed by Crisman
Vermont lawmakers consider granting the state authority to regulate transport of nuclear and other hazardous waste on roads, spurred by shipments from the Vermont Yankee plant. Sponsor John Zampieri notes 30 towns barred waste moves, though legal force unclear. The bill would empower Transportation Secretary Crisman to set regulations without detailing specifics. Farmers seek to allow tattooing instead of ear-notching for cattle, arguing ear-notching raises costs while brucellosis controls drive testing and herd destruction.
