New England Moon Eclipse Set for December 30
Boston observers will witness a total lunar eclipse on December 30 with most of the viewable action in New England. The moon enters Earth's umbra at 4:25 a.m. and leaves at 7:50 a.m., but rise and horizon limits may trim the final phase. Planetarium director John Patterson notes the eclipse occurs when Earth lies directly between Sun and Moon, briefly darkening the lunar disk. The Hayden Planetarium will show daily eclipse enactments December 27 to 30 for public viewing.
