Harbor General uses home heart monitoring to aid patients
In Torrance California patients with pacemakers and arrhythmias can call Harbor General Hospital using a small transmitter attached to the body. The device sends the heart signal as a beeping radio signal, enabling doctors to monitor remotely and summon in person care if needed. The system, costing about 125 dollars, has been in use two years for pacemakers and one year for arrhythmias, and allows patients mobility while staying near a phone.
