Gun Control Law bans interstate sale of firearms
The Gun Control Act of 1968 became law at midnight, banning most interstate sales of rifles, shotguns, and ammunition except between licensed entities. Handgun sales remain restricted by prior law. It sets licensing fees, allows intrastate mail order with notice, permits repairs across state lines, and protects hunting, inheritance, and certain loan arrangements while outlining enforcement by the IRS.
