Ohio River Bridge Collapses During Rush-Hour Traffic

A low mood-era bridge in Point Pleasant West Virginia collapsed at dusk Friday during rush hour, sending dozens of vehicles into the Ohio River. At least six dead and 18 injured were confirmed, with many others feared swept away or trapped. The 1928 bridge, about a third of a mile long linking West Virginia and Ohio, drew governors to view the damage as ambulances and Coast Guard boats assisted responders from up to 50 miles away.

Puts Brakes on Great Society Congress Goes Home After Voting

UAW GM Avert Strike By Agreeing On Contract

Detroit based UPI reports General Motors and the United Auto Workers reached a three year contract after 29 hours of talks. The pact provides pay raises and benefits averaging over a dollar per hour by 1970, with GM covering about half the roughly $3 billion industry cost. Reuther termed the agreement noninflationary and more economically equitable than in the prior 30 year GM relationship.

Missing Vosburgh Dogs Found Dead in Pownal Cellar Hole

In North Pownal, the Vosburgh family confirmed that two missing hounds Sport and Pal were found dead with others in a cement foundation filled with stagnant water near Vt 346. The dogs were shot, identified by Florence Vosburgh and Thomas Otero with assistance from state police and Richard Perrott. A $150 reward was to be paid to Otero, with potential charges against the responsible party under consideration by local and state authorities.

Ruggles Proposes New Right To Know Bill
