Dacca Face Cease Fire Amid Indian Assaults
Pakistani commanders in Dacca asked India for a cease-fire as Indian armor artillery and planes pressed toward the capital leaving much of East Pakistan ablaze. India issued surrender terms to Lt Gen A A K Niazi and a five hour ultimatum. US naval units were reportedly en route to rescue Americans in the city. Violence spread to Kashmir and other East Pakistan fronts as Indian forces closed within miles of Dacca.
