Mortgage Foreclosure and Home Repossession Overview
A mortgage is a pledge of a home to secure a loan and allows foreclosure if payments lapse. The lender may sell the property to recover money, with resale proceeds applied to the loan and costs. The court oversees the sale to protect rights, and any surplus goes to the homeowner. reacquisition is possible by paying the loan and costs.
Mortgage troubles and lender negotiations
Most lenders prefer to work out an arrangement rather than foreclose. Your best protection is to keep up mortgage payments. If you fall behind, tell the lender right away and seek a compromise on payments.
