New incurable VD reported in Vietnam
The Vermont Freeman cites Don Luce of East Calais alleging a new incurable venereal disease has emerged among U S soldiers in Vietnam. He claims the virus spreads mainly from American troops, with Vietnamese prostitutes receiving limited care, aiding political agendas and prompting possible investigations by a U S senator.

Vermont bear hunting tops season with 311 kills
Vermont hunters took 311 black bears in the just‑closed season, 11 more than the 10‑year average of 300. Early snows aided tracking on back‑country ridges with mast crops, and over 250 bears were taken by deer hunters. The largest bear weighed 470 pounds before dressing, with 413 pounds after.

Extended Vermont trout season yields mixed results
In October the Vermont Fish and Game Department extended the stream trout season by 15 days on a Black River stretch to study a fall spawning run of Lake Memphremagog browns. Only modest angler success occurred as abnormally low water hampered migration. 144 anglers logged 567 hours, harvesting 30 rainbow trout, 5 brown trout, and one brook trout, all males, with a rumored 9 pound brown on the final day.
