Victory Dam funds sought for Moose River project
Governor Hoff announced he will urge Vermont’s congressional delegation to request federal support in the omnibus public works appropriation for the Victory Dam and Reservoir on the Moose River north of St Johnsbury. The Army Corps found need for flood control storage along the Moose Passumpsic and Connecticut rivers. The dam would be 930 feet long, 90 feet high, creating a 2880 acre lake with initial cost about 5.3 million dollars, with 600000 reimbursed locally. The reservoir would hold 82000 acre feet for flood control and 24000 acre feet for year round flood control, managed for recreation and wildlife benefits. Local interests would administer lands and waters for recreation and wildlife.
