Hearst defense aids by ACLU against gag order
The ACLU joined Patty Hearst's defense to oppose a pretrial gag on her case, arguing constitutional protection from pretrial publicity. Judge Carter will hear the gag petition Thursday as Hearst faces charges related to the 1974 San Francisco SLA robbery and abduction chronology. The defense cites press inquiries as vital to a fair process and accuses prosecutors of seeking to curb information flow. Hearst, 21, is to stand trial January 26 for involvement with SLA members in the heist following her Berkeley abduction.
