Manchester PTA Hears UCS Work Described
Miss Madelaine St Amand of United Counseling Service described UCS work to Manchester PTA. She noted 60 percent of UCS patients are under 18, with group therapy for school age children and preschoolers, family therapy, and therapy for young adults and former mental hospital patients. Early diagnosis of mental retardation or other issues is emphasized, with examples of treatable hearing defects and metabolic disease leading to timely Grade 1 entry and a 700 word vocabulary for a child. Persistent or disproportionate emotional problems and regression signal need for professional help.
