Vermont Bank Sues Morrissey Estate Over Mortgage Dispute
The Vermont Bank and Trust Co sues the estate of late attorney Francis E. Morrissey in Bennington County Court over a $100,000 loan to L and G Corp secured by a Pownal mortgage. The bank alleges Morrissey’s title certification hid an earlier $80,000 Cloro-Bac mortgage, which a chancery court ruled superseded the bank’s lien and awarded $68,320.40 to Cloro-Bac. The suit seeks $35,967.92 plus interest and $3,000 in fees. The filing notes Morrissey helped form L and G Corp and served as its chairman and attorney at his death.
