Justice Dept Suggested Walker Report Deletions

Washington UPI report states the Justice Department suggested deletions in the Walker report on the Chicago Democratic National Convention disturbances. Cliff Sessions said deletions concerned specific events and individuals under DOJ investigation and that the department did not order the deletions. The Chicago Tribune cited Clark directing the rewrite of the report charging police rioted during the convention.

Corcoran Adds Bennington To His List of Defendants

Joseph D. Corcoran of 131 McKinley St petitions the Vermont Supreme Court to force Bennington to grant a water connection and seeks a sewer permit for a proposed trailer park at Morgan Street and Imperial Avenue. The town may be added after a hearing following motions in Montpelier.

Nixon Speaks at Dinner Honoring Bishop McIntyre

President-elect Nixon spoke in California at a $250 plate Century Plaza dinner honoring Cardinal James Francis McIntyre. He urged national unity over concern for the poor, urged a ready commitment to those less fortunate, and described his future administration’s theme. Nixon also visited Santa Marta hospital with McIntyre, spoke in broken Spanish to infants, and noted his return to California before traveling to Palm Springs for a governors’ conference.

NYU Suspends Students In Campus Raid

NYU suspended two students after a Wednesday night raid on the campus center disrupted talks by Nguyen Huu Chi and James Reston. University president James M. Hester said an investigation is under way to identify other raiders, with a Student Faculty University Senate committee to decide further action. The SDS claimed credit for the incidents.

UMass Studies Solar Radio Signals With NASA Grant

The University of Massachusetts will begin a detailed study of solar radio waves using new instruments and methods funded by a $100,000 NASA grant. Led by G. Richard Huguenin, the project involves cooperation with Harvard at the Fort Davis Texas station, aims to map dynamic spectra and high time resolution emissions, and will process data in Amherst.
