New England Horizons Through a Glassworks Darkly
New Hampshire historian Jacqueline Huard Temple details Robert Hewes glassworks venture in the Mount Monadnock area. The 1781 loan backed by a state lottery failed when currency collapsed, ending the project after the furnaces and site endured. Boston University scholars study the 200-year-old New England Glass Works site and Hewes family ties to early American industry.
