Hoff flags Senate bid as Vietnam debate stirs students
Former Gov. Philip Hoff told Burr and Burton seniors in Manchester he is giving serious consideration to a 1970 U.S. Senate run against Sen. Winston L. Prouty. Hoff discussed Vietnam and marijuana, urged caution on drug use, and urged a departure from naive policy while praising smaller Vermont schools, land use planning, and fair trials in the Song My case. He mapped a national mood of frustration and predicted the 1970s would bring reappraisal and excitement.
