Carter rules out wage and price controls

Racing chief warns track closing imminent

MONTPELIER UPI Racing Commission Chairman Fred Davis warned Vermont's sole pari mutuel track Green Mountain Park in Pownal may close due to rising costs and competition from other gambling. To cut costs owners shifting from horse racing to greyhounds. 150 dog workers versus 1,000 at the track. Davis said state cannot rely on 2.5 million annual revenue and suggested little hope from legislature to restore horse racing.

Carter names Cyrus Vance as Secretary of State

President-elect Jimmy Carter phoned Senator Jacob Javits in Paris to convey the appointment of Cyrus Vance as Secretary of State. Javits, touring Europe on currency talks, called the move reassuring and praised Vance as a distinguished American with bipartisan foreign policy experience.

Economic aide seeks to rekindle growth in SW Vermont towns

John Kenney, named executive director of the Economic Development Council of Southwest Vermont, will aid Bennington and Rutland County towns in pursuing targeted growth and federal funds.
