Willowbrook fire victim Helena Masia dies after blaze

Helen Masia a 36 year old mother of two died at Albany Medical Center from third degree burns covering her body after an early Tuesday apartment fire in Willowbrook. Two others were injured including daughter Joanne 15 and Bruce Bamulis 28. Bamulis helped drag Masia and Joanne from the fire as investigators review its cause.

Carter alarmed as economy shows no improvement in October

United Press International reports the Commerce Department index of leading indicators was unchanged in October after two declines, signaling no near term improvement. The oct index stood at 107.1 with all 11 sectors down, while steel price rises drew criticism from Mondale and Nessen noted ongoing talks to curb oil prices.

Steel rise may lead to U S price controls

Washington reports that rising steel and aluminum prices amid weak demand could trigger price controls. Rep.
