The Labor Department reports November unemployment at 6.0 percent while the number of employed Americans rises past 80 million for the first time after seasonal adjustment. White young adult workers lifted joblessness. overall earnings fell 74 cents to 128.74 weekly, with hours inching up.

Congress was urged to approve an emergency 1.5 million dollars to keep the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts open amid growing tourist crowds and rising vandalism. Center leaders warned the facility may close to the public except for performances without the funds.
Woodford voters meet Tuesday at 7 30 p m to decide on selling about 12 000 acres to the U S Forest Service which would own about 92 percent of the town. Major parcels include 5 000 acres owned by Charles Dewey 4 000 by Charles and Mrs Scott and about 2 000 by General Interiors. Great Northern holds 1 100 acres uncommitted. Local opposition and Act 250 delays loom as Forest Service surveys begin for appraisal. price may hover near 200 per acre with taxes around 16 000 annually under current ownership.
The Greater Bennington Chamber of Commerce will pay about 40 dollars for the downtown Christmas light bill this year. Central Vermont Public Service had covered similar costs in the past but declined this season due to rising expenses. The lights, synchronized with Main Street overhead lamps, run dawn to dusk for about 30 days. Chamber Executive Secretary Hiram G.
