Bennington voters approve 16 charter changes and sewer bond
In a light turnout, Bennington voters approved 16 articles on a special Town Meeting ballot, including a 110000 sewer extension bond and key charter changes. Bond passed 467 to 260. the town seeks 550000 federal funding with EDA pending. Changes expand at large selectman elections, two polling sites, lister appointments, and other municipal reforms.

Vermont Yankee hearing Cree vows funds to pay off loans

State Learns of Its Debts for Bennington Failures
Vermont may pay 3.5 million due to failures of two Bennington firms that received nearly 4 million in Vermont Industrial Building Authority loan guarantees. The 1972 legislature will be asked to appropriate 424,000 to cover this year’s payments by state Treasurer Frank Davis to creditors of Ben-Mont Corp. and Garrison Printing Co. Governor Deane C. Nixon to visit three Chinese cities in seven days
The White House said President Nixon and Mrs. Nixon will travel to Peking Shanghai and Hangchow for a seven day trip in February. The discussions with Premier Chou En Lai and Chairman Mao Tse tung aim for free wheeling talks and to establish channels for opposing views without dramatic agreements. Kissinger stressed no immediate settlement and noted Nixon will also meet allies ahead of a Moscow visit.
