Angola's looming civil war escalates as rivals seek Luanda
UPI reporting from Johannesburg notes Portugal still governs Angola with a 24,000 non Portuguese army framed as abdication. A volatile power vacuum feeds a brutal tribal conflict among the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola led by Agostinho Neto and the rival National Front and National Union factions. As independence nears in November, Luanda becomes a battleground where teen militias and trained forces clash, risking mass casualties without international intervention.

Excommunication unlikely for nuns in Fall River case
A church law specialist doubts excommunication will apply to five Roman Catholics who sued Fall River bishop Daniel Cronin over St. John’s Child Care and Development Center. The suit alleges landlord disputes after Cronin padlocked the center, renting the building for about $1,200 monthly.
