The Senate passed a six year renewal of higher education and vocational programs by a 78 to 5 vote. An amendment exempting Boys State Girls State and other single sex activities from federal sex discrimination rules was adopted. The bill also raises the basic grant for needy students from 1400 to 1800 dollars, a change criticized by Sen. Stevens as duplicative.

The four by eight foot oriented structural board uses wood chips pressed in three directions, aiming at roofing and siding markets.
Vermont candidates dispute Gov. Salmon ally Stella Hackel’s reorganization plan to cut state spending. Hackel would abolish four of five superagencies and rename the fifth, creating 20 co equal departments and an executive commissioner of administrative management. Proponents claim savings of at least 500000, while opponents call the plan flawed and speculative.
