Grocers urge repeal of Vermont bottle law
An 11 page Vermont Retail Grocers Association report to legislators calls the container deposit law inflationary and unnecessary arguing it costs Vermonters over 6 million annually while not cutting litter. It links higher beer prices to the law a drop in beer tax revenue and increased out of state shopping. The study proposes restoring a four tenths of a cent litter tax on beverage containers with revenue directed to statewide recycling centers and an oral resource recovery program.
