Filter Tip Cigarettes Show Tar Linked to Mouse Skin Cancer

A year long study reported in JAMA found tobacco smoke from six cigarette brands including two filter tip types produced tar that caused skin tumors in mice. Filtered cigarettes yielded about one third the tar of standard cigarettes and showed fewer tumors with slower onset. The tar was applied to mouse skin after condensing smoke from machine smoked cigarettes. The tobacco industry disputes a cancer link.
