Lighting Woes Fixed by Up With People Electronics
A mysterious power surge melted wires in a new $28,000 dimmer and lighting-control system for Up With People Inc at Mt Anthony Union High School in Bennington. The console was bypassed by a manual system while technicians, led by Evans and Hastreiter, and a Tucson staffer, scrambled to restore full lighting. A backup system from Brattleboro was kept ready for instant plug in as officials traced the issue.

Erosion Threatens Lakeshore Homes Along Lake Michigan
Along Michigan's Great Lakes shoreline erosion has undercut hundreds of properties. In South Haven, William Atkins reports losing about 16 feet of land, leaving a cliff edge. Government estimates show 1,300 miles of shoreline erodible and over 55 miles damaged, with several homes already lost to the lake. Costs to protect major damaged areas exceed 100 million dollars while high water and wind erosion persist. Seawalls are costly and complex, needing regional agreement to avoid shifting erosion to neighbors.

Ancient Egyptians showed advanced medical knowledge
Scientist Dr. El Assal notes ancient Egyptian medicine was highly developed in disease, teeth, and hygiene. They used doctors who examined patients, performed dental work, prescribed liver for night blindness, and slept under mosquito nets to ward off malaria. They documented anatomy and surgical tools, with diagnostic reasoning and hygiene practices praised.
