Wallace defies second order over busing in Alabama schools

Arab federation signed to united front against Israel

In Damascus a federation pact among Egypt Syria and Libya was signed by President Anwar Sadat Libyan Premier Muammar Khadafy and President Hafez Assad to form a united Arab front. A vote on the federation's constitution is set for Sept 1.

Medina quoted party over at My Lai court martial

The government presented its most damaging witness against Capt. Ernest L. Medina as former GI Thomas Kinch said Medina ordered the shooting stopped by saying, That's enough shooting for the day. The party's over. Kinch testified he heard the phrase and saw a boy killed. Bailey pressed Kinch on prior statements and memory, while Kinch admitted possible errors. The trial recessed until next Tuesday.

Calley sentence reduced to twenty years confinement

Calley life sentence for My Lai murder was cut to 20 years confinement by a UPI report filed from McPherson Georgia. The reduction followed legal action tied to wartime conduct and appeals as the officer faced ongoing scrutiny over the Vietnam War atrocity.

Board denies Hoffa parole in surprise ruling

The U S Parole Board rejected James R Hoffa s third appeal for freedom from federal imprisonment on Friday signaling it is not convinced he cut all ties to the Teamsters. The board said it would reconsider the case next June as Hoffa s son testified that the 20 000 in fines were paid. Hoffa had resigned last June with Frank E Fitzsimmons named successor and the Teamsters had pledged cooperation with the President.

Jefferson charges Mahady leak a political move says attorney general

Montpelier Vermont Attorney General James Jeffords accused Winsor County State's Attorney Frank Mahady of leaking reports of Jeffords involvement with the White River Corp for political purposes. Jeffords defended his duties as corporation clerk and financier for the White River Corp since 1968 and said no case pending between the state and the company.
