Powell Drives Indians Past Rangers with Five RBIs
Boog Powell, aging slugger of the Cleveland Indians, silenced the Texas Rangers with five RBIs on two homers, a double, and a single as Cleveland won 7-5. Powell, mired by injuries, had entered the game batting .217 but fueled a 4-0 start and the go-ahead surge in the eighth. Other AL and NL results followed: Minnesota over Baltimore, Detroit past California, Chicago over Boston, Milwaukee over Kansas City, plus Pirates over Giants and several other scores.
