Petersburg board approves extra assessor funds this year
The Petersburg town board voted to give assessor Joan Watrous an additional 250 this year to reassess property this fall. The extra funds will be subtracted from next year’s assessor budget since fall assessments determine the following year’s tax bills. The board also planned a meeting with state tax officials to explain the equalization rate process and discussed wetlands regulation to meet Sept. 1 deadlines. A lawsuit was filed by Otto and Catherine Ambuhl over a high assessment, but dismissal was recommended on technical grounds. Road projects and equipment repairs were addressed, with a potential nonbidding repair of a road sander examined.
