Chinese Prime Minister a Caricature Of Old Age at Dorset

Caravan Theatre presents Enid Bagnold comedy The Chinese Prime Minister at Dorset Playhouse through Sunday directed by Carol Arthur. Cast includes Patricia Carmichael, Ron Savoy, David Siever, Michael Brett, Hap Lawrence and Pam Reichert. Critic notes sharp wit and English phrasing, but finds three-dimensional aging characters insufficiently dramatized, concluding the work exposes age yet remains inwardly focused with vivid performances and solid staging.

DuBarry Was a Lady opens at Colonie Summer Theatre

A mixed review accompanies the opening of DuBarry Was a Lady at Colonie Summer Theatre with Cole Porter songs and a large cast including Dorothy Lamour in New York and the Versailles segment. The reviewer praises the orchestra and costumes while faulting the acting, noting Dorothy Lamour’s long marriage and business ventures outside of stage work. The piece also reports President Johnson naming Henry J. Gwiazda to chair the National Selective Service Appeal Board and adds a brief note on other appointees.
