Dorset's Earnest fails to spark in Dorset's Harlequin Players
Anne Eisenmenger reviews the Dorset Playhouse production of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. Francois De La Giroday's Jack Worthing struggles with a double life, while Bill Mahone's Algernon offers the only subtle humor. The cast overacts and the female roles collapse into caricature, leaving the humor thin and dated.
