GOP Trio Raps Kennedy For Ban Test Retreat
Senate Republican Leader Dirksen and House Republican Leader Halleck joined Gov. Rockefeller in criticizing President Kennedy's nuclear test ban proposals. They said Kennedy has moved toward the Soviet position and sent negotiators to Geneva with concessions rejected by the Soviets. Rockefeller warned the changes risk U.S. security and questioned the transparency of Kennedy’s talks. Arthur Dean in Geneva said the United States would cut control costs to 80, less than half of prior figures.
