Objections delay action on sign law hearing
The Bennington Planning Commission tabled for two weeks a hearing on its sign ordinance after a two hour meeting in which local businessmen opposed the proposal. Planner Manfred Ehrich III said the panel would seek changes to satisfy business concerns without weakening the ordinance. The board will field check 123 signs not conforming to the formula of one square foot per linear foot of frontage with bonus for setback, to determine necessary adjustments for conformity.

White River Jct Vermont lawyer lobbyist Henry F Black 71 died Wednesday night in Chicago at an American Bar Association meeting from a heart attack. Senior partner at Black Plante he twice served as a Superior Court judge and held public posts including state Board of Education and Hartford planning moderator. He was a Norwich University trustee and ran for governor in 1952 before health halted his campaign. Black practiced before federal courts and the U S Supreme Court and was allied with Central Vermont Public Service Corp among others. Funeral services are pending.
