Japanese Girls Study at St. Michael's To Sharpen English Skills
Eighteen Shirayuri Women's College students from Tokyo participate in St. Michael's International Student Program in Winooski. They describe both kindness from Americans and culture shock, noting preferences for smaller cities and the challenge of tipping. The group, led by Miss Makiko Sekiguchi, has eight weeks in the United States to improve English through grammar, reading, and conversation, with many still reverting to Japanese in private.
