Self and the elusive meaning of know thyself

The piece argues that self is not fixed but formed by culture, age, and context. It outlines four facts: self is a learned, evolving construct. actions stem from self-concern and hope. self-image shapes behavior and masks the real self. people masquerade to sustain their self-image, making genuine self-knowledge difficult and often elusive.
