Flashing Red Light Bill Opposed by Vermont Fire Volunteers
Delegates from Southern Vermont volunteer fire departments met at the Municipal Center to oppose a bill removing flashing red lights from volunteer fire vehicles. Henry White of Bennington was chosen to represent the group at a Rutland meeting on June 20 to organize opposition to the measure, which passed the House but died in the Senate in 1967 and faces the 1968 session. If enacted, only municipal department vehicles could display the oscillating red lights. Fire training schools will be planned, with the first class tentatively set for May 22.
