An American Romance book review by John Casey
A measured review praises An American Romance for its musical humor and rich language while faulting the plot for overelaborate scenes and too tidy resolution. It notes Anya and Mac as vivid contrasts, their Iowa college milieu, and the novel’s thoughtful portrayal of university life, art, and love. Casey’s fiction is deemed ambitious and humane.

The Plug-In-Drug book review and cautions
A dense critical review of Marie Winn's The Plug-In Drug argues television harms children and families more than its content. It cites studies and experts, including Nicholas Johnson, to claim TV alters consciousness, reduces play, and erodes cognitive and social development. The piece notes Winn offers few solutions, predicting heavy debate and possible policy interventions.
