Vergennes Driver Acquitted After Fatal Rutland Crash
In Rutland, a seven-wemale and five-male jury acquitted 40-year-old Arthur Flanagan of driving while intoxicated and careless driving in a Pittsford crash that killed five people, including two Burlington women and a 4-year-old child. The judge excluded trooper testimony about a .23% blood alcohol level, ruling no warning given for a chemical test under Vermont law. Flanagan, who was hospitalized over a year for injuries, had admitted drinking earlier but denied knowing how much.
