Kissinger pledges aid to end global inequality at UN meet

Veteran finally receives World War I medal

77 year old Ernest A. Sheer will receive the Silver Star for heroism on April 18, 1918 in France after a long lapse in records. He captured a German machine gun nest and 47 enemy soldiers, earning the Croix De Guerre with a palm, and later the Purple Heart. A 56 year delay sidelined the DSC, which was confirmed after a Rock Island effort led by Mrs. Shirley Barrett. The medal will be presented at the Rock Island Arsenal.

Nixon Extension Pauses Tax Deadline For 1973 Returns

Washington UPI Nixon escapes the midnight filing deadline with a 60 day IRS extension after ruling on back taxes. The president owes about 467000 in back taxes and interest from 1969 to 1972, with payment plans offered. The IRS noted no fraud implication and the White House said the extension was due to timing.

Ziegler calls Ford remarks inappropriate
