Hoff Urges 150 Member House Reapportionment
Governor Hoff urged Vermont's House Reapportionment Committee to allow a vote on a reapportioned House of 150 members while signaling a veto for larger plans. He argued for preserving rural areas’ identity and applying one person one vote rules, noting about half the seats would come from Vermont's 20 largest towns and cities. Hoff credited a secret pre vote showing broad support for 150 members and said committee chair Emory Hebard and the panel may back the 150-member plan at final voting.

Hathorn Sees Passage of Hoff Tax Program
MONTPELIER UPI The Ways and Means chair Byron Hathorn said Hoff tax plans will likely pass without opposition after a public hearing on raising Vermont cigarette tax from eight to nine cents a pack. The hike would generate about 500000 yearly and take effect a year from June. Opposition to Hoff’s proposals on capital gains beer wine and alcohol taxes has been limited. Tax adviser Joseph Marshall said the cigarette rise won’t cut sales since New York has raised its taxes and New Hampshire may do likewise.
