Hearst sentencing delayed for tests in San Francisco
Patricia Hearst must undergo a nine day psychiatric evaluation before sentencing on bank robbery charges. Judge Oliver Carter ordered the test to be conducted at the Metropolitan Correction Center in San Diego, with Hearst to be transferred from San Mateo County Jail for the evaluation. The judge indicated he intends to reduce the maximum 35 year sentence after the report, and Hearst will later return to court for the final judgment. Hearst, 22, daughter of Randolph Hearst, was convicted on counts of bank robbery and using a weapon in a felony. The case stems from the Hibernia Bank robbery two years earlier and her 1974 kidnapping by the SLA. Carter emphasized the case is brutal and violent, and he plans to defer ultimate judgment pending the evaluation.
