Hohman arraigned in murder case as court tightens security
Bennington County Superior Court imposed strict security when George J. Hohman 35 Bennington pleaded not guilty to first degree murder in the strangulation death of 15 year old Mary Ann Peterson. The defendant free on $30000 bond and the trial location remains unsettled. The victim Mt Anthony Union High School freshman was found near Buck Hill Road Shaftsbury her body autopsied with strangulation listed as the cause. Judge Hilton H Dier Jr granted a change of venue but kept side judges on the case. The defense sought access to a sealed psychiatric report. the judge said he would review it to determine disclosure. State’s Attorney Raymond G Bolton will lead the prosecution with assistant Keefe. Bolton was in Boston for the Red Sox game canceled by cold weather.

Finland Munitions Plant Blast Kills Forty in Lapua
An explosion at a Lapua ammunition factory in western Finland killed 40 people and injured over 30, many women, in the nation’s worst industrial accident. Defense officials said 2,600 pounds of explosives were stored at the plant, with 100 soldiers deployed and 72 ministers traveling to the scene for response.
