Hoff to Sign Housing Bill in State Antidiscrimination Move
MONTPELIER UPI Gov. Philip H Hoff is expected to sign a housing antidiscrimination bill into law. The measure adds a human rights commission as the enforcement mechanism after Senate action and House votes.
Knights of Columbus meeting and election plans
A meeting of the investigating committee is set for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at which time candidates for membership will be interviewed and a First Degree will be exemplified for candidates on April 25 after the regular monthly meeting. Election of a grand knight to replace the deceased Raymond LeBlanc will occur, with possible vacancies filled. The Communion breakfast at St Francis de Sales Church and a Bennington High School breakfast preceded the screening of The Papal Challenge. The film highlights Knights of Columbus efforts. Pope Paul VI urged ongoing collaboration with the church. A separate bill vests the commission with power to investigate discrimination, seek conciliation, and, if needed, pursue criminal action through chancery court, with penalties up to $500 fine and 30 days in jail.
