Unification Group Faces Harsh Questions at Hearing
Bennington’s Unification Study Committee met skeptical rural fire district residents at Willow Road firehouse. Atty John Williams outlined a unified town plan with a full time manager, regional water expansion, and townwide finances while rural areas would not get a separate vote. Critics questioned benefits, costs, and power dynamics as committee members urged viewing Bennington as a single town.

Woodford Schools to Stay Open for 1966-67 Year
Woodford elementary students will remain in town for another year rather than joining Bennington schools on a tuition basis. The decision stems from a Woodford board vote, with one dissent, to delay closing the town school amid expected crowding and Mt. Anthony Union District changes. Bennington officials will await the 1967-68 move. Franklin Riley urged delaying for safer planning.
