Mt Anthony Union School board approves 8.2 percent budget rise

The Mt. Anthony Union School board approved a $3.528 million budget for the coming year, up 8.2 percent and totaling $269,000 more than the current budget. The increase raises the tax rate about 45 cents per penny, adding roughly $45 to a $20,000 home, with costs driven by higher heat, electricity, Social Security, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and liability insurance. The plan adds staff salaries, a reading consultant, parttime instructors, and a new track improvement fund, while trimming instructional and capital outlay costs to offset the rise.
