Benalla Racing Club will hold its next meeting on Saturday March 3 at Newmarket Das. The programme includes two 5 furlong Restricted Handicap events and a 64 furlong Flying Leap race. Nominations close 6 p.m. February 21. Nomination forms available from secretary Mr B Boyd.
The meeting at Memorial Hall chaired by President 8. B. Mellor reviewed finances showing a credit near £100 across district accounts. Mr. Mellor urged rebuilding the Benalla branch by engaging youth and securing parliamentary support, while Dr. Wallace was elected president as Mellor stepped down from that role.
The faction lauded the Min istry as a virile and practical government the state had not seen before. Ministers were praised for realism over polish while the press paid tribute to their actions. A motion honouring Mellor for decades of service was carried unanimously. The meeting elected Holdsworth as vice president with a new secretary and formed a broad executive. The Women’s Section heard from Mrs Goudie on national and state policy, urging active country branches and backing the GIP. A fund gesture was made to the Albert Dunstan Memorial Appeal.
