District 31 Starts Expanded Elementary Water Safety Course

District 31 will provide a basic water safety program for elementary students this year expanding to include third graders. About 1,277 students from seven schools will train 10 hours for grades three to five and five hours for grades six, with buses transporting them to the district pool at the Junior High complex.

Meat imports rise to exceed seven hundred million pounds

Meat imports soared reaching a cumulative total over 707 million pounds for the year, largely low grade beef for hamburger and products. Voluntary agreements kept shipments under a level that would trigger formal quotas, with 60 percent of the year’s allocation used by July.

Bemidji MN Board approves contracts and budget actions

The Bemidji Independent School District No. 31 board met August 20 1975 approving minutes and awarding milk heads to Land O Lakes. They authorized routes H 1 B 1 2 and more for pupil transportation and set prices for meals and breakfast. They rejected fuel bids, approved electric typewriters, created an AVTI assistant director post and adopted policy SBR 900 204 for free or reduced price meals. They approved tuition with Brainerd district for Ray Bates and Kay Berry and adopted junior senior high handbooks and policies for 1975 76. They tabled items on certain policies for September and approved various teacher contracts leaves and resignations. The meeting adjourned.

Broiler production edges up after sharp 1975 drop

Washington AP reports broiler production in 1975 recovered from a 4.5 percent year to mid year drop with easing feed costs. USDA experts expect output to rise through early 1976 if prices hold, though future growth hinges on feed costs demand for poultry meat and competition from beef and pork amid the economy.
